Art Group

The group was started up just over 6 years ago to bring together a number of people who had a desire to learn to paint, initially in watercolours, so that we could encourage one another and to learn together. Over the years we now have members trying out and using different mediums such as acrylics, pastels, charcoal, pen and wash etc.

One of the lovely things about the group is that we are all at different stages from absolute beginners to more experienced, talented artists, and every level in between. Help, advice and encouragement is always available to those who need it from within the group - techniques, tips demonstrations etc, on a one to one basis if required. We also bring in a tutor from time to time.

Whilst members are free to 'do their own thing' we do have a programme of different subjects and using different mediums. Many of these sessions are led by a member of the group offering step by step instruction where needed. We all tend to have our favourite subject matter, medium etc but sometimes by trying something different we have not only broadened our skills but have been found something else we really enjoy.

We have held two exhibitions, in the Octagon. Both events raised considerable sums of money for a UK charity and an overseas charity.

We meet on a Wednesday afternoon, 1.30 - 4.00 pm, in the main church building throughout the year.

It is a real joy to meet together, sharing a common interest, enjoying each other's company, encouraging one another, seeing our skills developing. We are always happy to welcome new members and if you would like to join us or just find out more contact Pat Muir.
